IRBD
1995, Experiences with Economic
Reforms, was the
first IRBD publication and covered
the broad horizon of the period
between the mid-1980s, the period
during which economic reforms
were first initiated, and the
mid-1990s when some of the major
outcomes of those reforms started
to become visible. It was thus
possible to make an assessment
of the reform process as manifested
in the overall macroeconomic performance
of the economy, as well as in
its various sectoral components.
IRBD 1995 focused on ten themes which included the
Macro-Economy, Financial Sector,
Fiscal Sector, Agriculture. Industry,
the External Sector, Population,
Health, Education and Poverty.
Each of the chapters raised important
issues which influenced the development
process, presented in-depth analyses
of the relevant reform agenda
put in place over the preceding
decade, identified some of the
major tasks ahead which needed
to be urgently addressed by the
policymakers, and put forward
concrete policy recommendations.
