International Symposium on the Citizen's Social Charter for South Asia organised by South Asia Centre for Policy Studies (SACEPS) in collaboration with United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN-DESA) and Marga Institute, Colombo.

Welcome address at the Inaugural session of the Symposium was delivered by Professor Rehman Sobhan, Executive Director, SACEPS. His address was followed by a statement from Mr. Nitin Desai, Under Secretary General, United Nations, Department of Economics and Social Affairs (UN-DESA).

The key statement was given by Hon. Professor G L Peiris, Minister of Enterprise Development, Industrial Policy and Investment Promotion & Constitutional Affairs, Sri Lanka.

SACEPS Task Force Meeting on A Citizen's Social Charter for South Asia organised by SACEPS, Dhaka held at BRAC Centre INN, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Supported by UNDESA, New York.
•Introductory Statement at the Inaugural Session was given by Professor Rehman Sobhan, Executive  Director, SACEPS and Chairman, CPD.
•Nobel Laureate Professor Amartya Sen, Master, Trinity College, Cambridge delivered his inaugural  address, which was the main attraction of the programme.
•His address was followed by a statement from Dr Kamal Hossain, Former Foreign Minister,  Government of Bangladesh and Vice President, Transparency International, as well as a Member,  SACEPS  Board of Trustees. An address by Justice Habibur Rahman, Former Chief Justice of  Bangladesh and Former Chief Advisor of the Caretaker Government of Bangladesh also added value  to the inaugural session of the conference.
