Demographic
Dynamics in Bangladesh: Looking at the Larger Picture
is a compendium volume of studies prepared under the
CPD-UNFPA Programme on Population and Sustainable
Development during 1998-2002.
The
volume is divided into two broad themes: Part A:
Bangladesh Population Momentum, Consequences and
Policy Implications; and Part B: Population and
Sustainable Development. Apart from dealing with the
potential impact of population momentum under various
scenarios, and present and past population policies,
Part A also presents studies on the interface between
population, economic growth and environmental degradation
in the context of Bangladesh. Part B, on the other hand,
covers a number of issues in the area of urbanisation,
migration and development, and education and health
policies. The studies have come up with a number of
recommendations in each of the abovementioned areas.
The
volume is aimed at serving the needs of policymakers,
academics, researchers and students who are interested
in issues and debates that concern important population
correlates in the context of Bangladesh.

low-income consumers and farm producers in the country
in the context of the policy of trade liberalisation
pursued by Bangladesh.

paper presents a study of the WTO-Doha Declaration on
TRIPS and Public Health and explores the opportunities
of the growth of Bangladesh's domestic pharmaceutical

for the development of Bangladesh's pharmaceutical sector
in the context of the Doha Declaration.

focus of the paper is to examine the implications of
the new Canadian LDC tariff initiative, approved by
the Canadian cabinet in December 2002 which provides
zero-tariff, zero-quota market access for a large number
of exportables from Bangladesh. The possibilities of
expansion of Bangladeshi exports in the Canadian market
have also been critically analysed in the paper.
