The country lost Tk 6,850 crore
or about 2 percent of the GDP in
the fiscal year to power supply
shortage, a CPD report reveals.
Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya,
executive director of the Centre
for Policy Dialogue, after
analysing last year's figures
predicted that the economic cost
may stand at Tk 7,000 crore in
the coming fiscal year because
of load shedding and low
voltage.
In the fiscal year 2004, the
commercial sector has been the
worst hit, accounting for
maximum share of 58 percent
loss, followed by industry with
34 percent, and agriculture 8
percent.
The CPD report says the
commercial sector lost Tk 4,000
crore and the industrial sector
about Tk 2,000 crore. The
agriculture sector, which also
includes forestry and fisheries,
lost around Tk 518 crore.
