CPD’s Advanced Lectures on Bangladesh Economy

 

The Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) has initiated a programme titled Advanced Lectures on Bangladesh Economy. The lectures will address macroeconomic policy, regional integration and globalisation related issues. The second series of lectures in this series was held at CPD during September 4-7 September 2006.

 

Students of economics who have exceptionally brilliant results to their credit at all levels, with BSS/MSS degree and those who have appeared in MSS examinations, are eligible to apply. The course is particularly relevant for students interested to pursue research and academic careers. 15 participants will be selected for the programme on competitive basis.

 

Lectures are conducted in English by the senior professionals of CPD. The course is free of charge. For details applicants should visit CPD website.

 

Applications for the course should include (i) a full resume, (ii) a covering letter (max 500 words) explaining the reasons for attending the programme, and (iii) one reference letter from academic supervisor.

Background

 

Over the years the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) has learnt through experience that to pursue teaching or research as a career, the aspirants needs to complement their academic programme with exposure to policy issues. These policy issues are fast evolving for Bangladesh Economy in an environment of macroeconomic policy reform, regional integration and globalisation. With a view to address this felt need the CPD has taken an initiative to launch a programme titled Advanced Lectures on Bangladesh Economy for the bright Economics graduates of the country. CPD will take advantage of the programme to identify its future recruits.

 

Objectives of the programme

 

The programme has been designed to expose the students to policy changes at national, regional and global levels and their implications for the Bangladesh economy. More specifically the objectives of the programme are to:

 

Ø       Orient the participants with the current state of macroeconomic performance of the Bangladesh economy,

Ø       Update them on importance, nature and extent of regional integration and its implication for Bangladesh,

Ø       Inform them about the challenges and opportunities of globalisation and its impact on Bangladesh economy.

 

Who should apply
Extraordinary students of economics with BSS and/or MSS degree as well as those who have appeared in MSS examination will be eligible to apply. The programme will be particularly relevant for those who are interested to pursue research and academic career. Students with particular interest in policy issues are also encouraged to apply.

Selection Process

Application should include a detailed CV with a covering letter explaining, in maximum 500 words, the reasons for attending the programme and one reference letter from academic supervisor. 15 participants will be selected on competitive basis. Date/Time/Venue

Ø       Lectures are held over three days.

Ø       Each lecture session is three hours (usually 3.00-6.00 pm) with 15 minutes break for refreshment.

Mode of Lecture

The lectures are conducted in English with audio visual accessories and printed hand notes

 

Programme Facilities

The programme is free of charge and the participants are provided with reading materials free of charge as well. At the end of the programme participants receive certificates of recognition

Senior professionals of CPD with specialisation in the relevant fields act as resource persons for this course
