Session on Post-Doha Marginalisation

The Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) organised a session on Post-Doha Marginalisation of LDC Concerns at the Hong Kong Trade and Development Symposium (HKTDS) on 14 December 2005 at 10:15 – 12:45 hours. The Symposium was held at Room 404, Hong Kong Exhibition Centre.

The coorganisers of the session were: South Asia Watch on Trade, Economics and Environment (SAWTEE), and Southern and Eastern African Trade Information and Negotiations Institute (SEATINI).

The HKTDS was hosted jointly by the East Asian International Economic Law and Policy (EAIEL) Programme of the Faculty of Law, University of Hong Kong, and the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD), Geneva in parallel to the Sixth WTO Ministerial in Hong Kong. Focus of the Session

The focus of the session was:

  1. How does the Doha Development Round fit in the overall development trend and prospects of LDCs, particularly in view of the new focus of developments, such as MDGs and PRSP?

  2. What are the core challenges of negotiations for LDCs under the Doha Development Round and will the LDC Group come out with substantive welfare gains from the Round?

  3. What are LDCs’ negotiating positions and options in specific areas including Agriculture, NAMA, GATS and TRIPS.

  4. What are the status and possible outcomes on negotiations including S&DT and TRCB.
