Masum Billah, Programme Associate, made a presentation titled Prospect of 3D Visualisation in Urban Planning in Bangladesh. The objective was to give a demonstration of a tool for urban planners and policymakers, proper use of which could resolve some of the prevailing urban problems. The focus of the paper was to develop a modern web based system for management and real time monitoring of urban development process using 3 Dimensional Geographic Information System (3D GIS) and Virtual Reality Technique. Mr Billah identified three types of areas viz. planned, unplanned and mixed-use urban areas for his empirical study.  He demonstrated 3D visualisation of these three areas by using the technique of 3D GIS and virtual reality. He also described the interactive interface from which a user can easily extract information for the purpose of urban planning.
