7th Trade Policy Appreciation
Workshop on WTO and Bangladesh
26-28 December 2006
Trade Related Research and
Policy Development (TRRPD) is
one of the major projects,
currently being implemented by
the Centre for Policy Dialogue
(CPD) under its Trade Policy
Analysis programme. The project
focuses on identifying the
challenges emerging from the
process of globalisation and in
this context seeks to design
coping strategies for Bangladesh
in particular, and LDCs in
general.
As part of the TRRPD programme,
since 2000 the CPD has been
organising a three-day Policy
Appreciation Workshop on WTO and
Bangladesh regularly. The
seventh policy appreciation
workshop was held from 26-28
December 2007 at the BRAC Centre
Inn auditorium in Dhaka. These
workshops bring together
government officials, trade
representatives, academics,
participants from NGOs, civil
society organisations and media.
The objective of the workshop is
to strengthen and promote trade
related capacity building in
Bangladesh, particularly in the
context of the ongoing
negotiations in the WTO.
Renowned experts on trade
related issues render lectures
at these workshops as resource
persons.
Dr Shishir Priyadarshi, Senior
Counsellor, WTO Secretariat,
Geneva along with senior CPD
researchers was present as the
resource persons. The workshop
plays a very important role in
raising awareness as regards
challenges emerging from the
process of globalization and
seeks to design coping
strategies for Bangladesh.
