1. State of the Bangladesh Economy and Budget Responses 2008

14 June 2007

Finance Adviser AB Mirza Azizul Islam rejected outright the notion that the proposals in the budget for fiscal year 2007-08 are unrealistic or unattainable. The size and financing in the proposed budget are not unrealistic, he said while speaking as chief guest at a dialogue on the state of Bangladesh economy and budget responses. Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) organised the dialogue at Sonargaon hotel in the capital on 14 June 2007. [more..]

 

2. Regional Cooperation for Agricultural Development in South Asia

1. Towards an Inclusive Globalisation

Nobel laureates Professor Amartya Sen & Professor Muhammad Yunus pitched for the poor of the world, stressing that Globalisation should help them and not merely the rich, to eradicate poverty and lift countless have-nots above the poverty line. C. Regional Dialogues

 

1. Indo-Bangladesh Dialogue on Politics and Security
September 10-14, 2007
A twelve member Bangladesh delegation, lead by Professor Rehman Sobhan, Chairman, Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) attended the Indo-Bangladesh Dialogue held in New Delhi, India during September 10-14, 2007. The dialogue focused on Politics & Security was hosted by India International Centre (IIC), New Delhi. The dialogue, a track two initiative of the civil society of the two countries addressed relevant issues that relate to politics & security concerning the two neighbouring countries. The dialogue is part of a series of Indo-Bangladesh Dialogue being jointly organised by the CPD in Dhaka and IIC in New Delhi since 2005. The first two rounds of Indo-Bangladesh dialogue held in Dhaka & New Delhi earlier have focused respectively on Trade, Investment & Connectivity and Media & Culture. [more..]
 

2. 7th BCIM Forum on Regional Economic Cooperation

3. Indo Bangladesh Dialogue on Media and Culture

6-8 March 2007

The Law and Information Advisor to the Caretaker Government Barrister Mainul Hosein called for stronger cultural cooperation and review of media policy of both Bangladesh and India. 1. CPD’s Reaction on Bangladesh Bank’s Monetary policy

14 July 2007

The Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) at a press briefing organised on 14 July 2007 at its dialogue room criticised government plans to curb loan-disbursing capacity of the banks and increase prices of natural gas, fertiliser, power and petroleum products, bowing down to World Bank (WB) and International Monetary Fund (IMF) suggestions. 2. An Analysis of the National Budget for FY2007-08

3. State of the Bangladesh Economy 2006-07

The spiralling price hike of essentials is currently the biggest pressure on the economy. The government should look into the matter immediately and maintain a generous import policy, particularly in food grain import for keeping the price under control. 1. 7th Trade Policy Appreciation Workshop on WTO and Bangladesh

26-28 December 2006

Trade Related Research and Policy Development (TRRPD) is one of the major projects, currently being implemented by the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) under its Trade Policy Analysis programme. The project focuses on identifying the challenges emerging from the process of globalisation and in this context seeks to design coping strategies for Bangladesh in particular, and LDCs in general. 1. Launch of Collected Works of Professor Rehman Sobhan

24 March 2007

Rehman Sobhan’s writings have paved the way towards establishing democracy and governance who dreamed his entire life to establish a society that is democratic, corruption free of corruption and of equality --- the Chief Advisor (CA) of the Caretaker Government Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed, a student of the first batch of Rehman Sobhan, made the remarks as the Chief Guest at the unveiling ceremony of 'Collected Works of Rehman Sobhan' Organised and published by the Centre for Policy Dialogue on the 24 March 2007 at the Hotel Sonargaonm Ballroom. The selected collection of his popular writings stretching from 1958 to 2006 has the notion of justice at the core and expresses his ideas on political economy of the society.  [more..]

 

2. Dinner Reception by the CPD Board of Trustees to Felicitate Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus

The Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) accorded a reception to Professor Muhammad Yunus, a founding trustee of the CPD, to celebrate his award of Nobel Peace Prize 2006. The reception was held on January 24, 2007 at the Spectra Convention Centre.  [more..]
