IRBD 2004 Workshop on “Regional Cooperation in South Asia”
November 20-21; CPD Dialogue Room at 3.00 pm

 

IRBD 2004 workshop on “Regional Cooperation in South Asia” was held on 20-21 November 2005 at the CPD Dialogue Room. Professor Mustafizur Rahman, Research Director of CPD chaired in the first day of the workshop. In the first day, three papers were presented namely, “Macroeconomic Stability and Growth Performance in South Asian Countries: A Comparative Perspective on Bangladesh” by Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya, Executive Director, CPD and Dr Fahmida Khatun, Senior Research Fellow, CPD; “Trade Integration in South Asia: Will Bangladesh Benefit from SAFTA?” by Professor Mustafizur Rahman and “Promoting Transport Cooperation in South Asia” by Dr M Rahmatulla, Director, Transport and Infrastructure, CPD. In the second day of the workshop, Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya chaired the session. In the second day, four papers were presented, namely, “Regional Cooperation in Energy Sector of South Asia” by Dr A K M A Quader, Professor of Chemical Engineering, BUET; “Opportunities and Challenges of Intra-regional Investment in South Asia: With Special Reference to Bangladesh” by Dr Khondaker Golam Moazzem, Research Fellow, CPD “Regional Cooperation for Agriculture Development in South Asia: A Perspective from Bangladesh” by Dr Uttam Kumar Deb, Senior Research Fellow, CPD; and “Poverty in South Asia: Need for an Empowerment Programme” by Professor M M Akash, Department of Economics, Dhaka University. All the researchers of CPD participated in the workshop and commented on the presented papers in the two-day long workshop.
