QaziFaruque Ahmed is one
of the pathfinders in
the field of alternative
development in
Bangladesh. In 1976, he
founded Proshika, a
leading NGO in
Bangladesh and is
currently the President
of this organisation. He
also was the Chairperson
of the Association of
Development Agencies in
Bangladesh (ADAB).

Mr Ahmed has
significantly
contributed to the
development of many
innovative approaches,
concepts and methods in
participatory
sustainable development.
A foremost organiser of
the growing civil
society movement, he has
been playing an active
role in establishing a
poverty-free, democratic
and pluralistic society
in Bangladesh. He has
extensively worked to
develop NGOs' common
perspectives and vision
on development,
democracy and good
governance, women's
empowerment,
environmental protection
and regeneration, and
human rights.
He has published many
articles and monographs
on various subjects and
co-authored a number of
books titled "The Water

B.Sc. ( Hons.) and M.Sc.
degrees in Chemistry
from the University of
Dhaka, Bangladesh. He
also received an ‘Doctor
of Laws’ degree from the
University of Bath, UK
for his outstanding
contribution in the
movement of sustainable
development and poverty
eradication in
Bangladesh.
